Agrivoltaics is one of the most interesting bets in the European renewable sector. It is not just solar energy. It is making electricity production compatible with the agricultural use of the land, without sacrificing one for the other. The Solarpark Zehntweg, in Krummendeich, is an example of this: approximately 36 hectares where photovoltaic panels and agricultural activity coexist on the same surface.
But in Germany, before installing the first panel, you have to prove that when the project comes to an end, the land will be left exactly as it was. German planning regulations require this without exception: a decommissioning and environmental restoration guarantee that covers the cost of returning the land to its original state.
Without that guarantee, there is no approval. Without approval, there is no project.
